Currently Stuart directs 5 choirs, performs in two groups (an acappella Gospel quartet, and solo with a string quartet), and runs team-building and leadership workshops for community and corporate organisations.
Stuart also writes and arranges music, and organises choirs to appear at large events - for example Powderfinger’s appearance at the 2008 ARIA awards, and the AFL Grand Final in 1998. He was the assistant director for many years of Australia’s best known acappella choir ‘The Cafe of the Gate of Salvation’ and his arrangements of popular songs for choirs are performed by choirs all over the world.
These days choirs are in the media every day. The sleeper film “As it is in Heaven” about a a small town choir in Sweden, became the longest running film in Sydney, and was followed by the phenomenal success of the ABC’s “Choir of Hard Knocks” and a new reality show “Battle of the Choirs”.
Everyone from Lend Lease to Long Bay Gaol (where Stuart ran workshops for inmates) has found that a choir is a great way to get people working together, and an effective metaphor for all situations where people need to work together harmoniously, under leadership, towards a common goal. Stuart’s biggest project to date was assembling and directing a 700 voice choir from 20 different cultural groups around Sydney. The performance at Sydney Town Hall (The Choral Sea) was recorded and released by the ABC.
